# 13. Your voice guide with filled examples

Use beside [Capture your voice](https://cowanworks.com/aicourse/learn/course-2/lesson-8). A useful guide explains how you write and gives examples; it does not describe an invented personality.

### Practice examples

“Thanks for taking time to practise that explanation together. The simpler opening made the demonstration easier to follow.”

“We need the materials list before we order. Please send the confirmed quantities to Operations by Tuesday noon.”

### Illustrative guide

**Use:** familiar words, a specific contribution or request, and the next useful step. **Avoid:** inflated praise, assumed motives, generic corporate slogans and claims not in the facts.

**Good:** “You found two confusing explanations and revised them. Please keep those examples for our next practice.” **Overdone:** “Your tireless dedication transformed student outcomes.” The latter invents an outcome and exaggerates the observation.

Learn writing habits from these permitted examples: [examples].
Show the wording supporting each habit. Ask what does not sound
like me, one question at a time. Then draft [message] from [facts].
Give a concise guide with use, avoid and examples. Keep the factual
source separate; style does not authorize new claims or promises.
```
Read the draft aloud, change a sentence and try a different channel. Save the guide only if it improves what you use.
